Spring break had a lot in store for many sports teams. Softball was able to go to Orlando, Florida, and play at ESPN Sports Complex where they won three and lost three games. Since being back from the trip, the softball season is officially in full swing. The team record stands at 13-14.
“The trip gave us a much better idea of what we needed to work on when we came back to Illinois. It was also a really nice way for the team to bond and get used to playing together,” said varsity coach Lea Corcoran.
Many of the girls have been playing softball for many years and have tried many different positions in their past.
“I’ve been playing softball for 10 years now, and I’ve grown into my main positions as a pitcher and a shortstop,” said senior Jessica Vaughn.
Lea Corcoran has played softball since she was five years old. She played at Grayslake Central where she pitched and played as a corner infielder.
“I hope to pass on some of my pitching knowledge to our staff this year and my softball knowledge to the team. I want the girls to realize how much potential I see in them and that I can inspire the girls I coach to love the game of softball as much as I do,” Corcoran said.
The team set some goals for not only their Florida trip but also for their regular season games.
“Our team goals are to be better than we were last year. We’re trying to win more games, hit more home runs, pitch more strikeouts, and steal more bases and so on. We’re focusing on getting better every day. It’s small adjustments throughout the season that make teams good. I want us to make those adjustments every single day,” Corcoran said.
