North places high in Niche rankings
According to the Niche school ratings, North was ranked 30 in the state. As a district, both North and Central ranked 16.
“The Niche ranking is very broad based,” said Principal James Roscoe. “It measures everything from [a school’s] academic program, extracurricular program, the health and safety of a building, the resources available and more.”
Niche ranking also offers the opportunity for students to submit surveys and opinions of the school’s classes, teachers and other factors. This feature allows student and parent feedback as a measurement of success.
“You get all of these standardized measurements. What I’m most proud of is not only all of our scores, but also the surveys that students and parents fill out. A lot of our responses are extremely positive,”Roscoe said.
Since North opened in 2004, their ranking has significantly increased over the years.
“We pride ourselves on listening to student voice,” Roscoe said. “All of these ratings really speak to not only the achievement level, but to the opportunities that we provide for our kids.
However, there are many goals that the district and school hope to achieve.
“The goal is to open doors to college like experiences to all kids, and not restrict it to just a few,” said Superintendent Catherine Finger.
District 127 and North were both noted for the “highly trained teaching staff and the warm, welcoming and safe environments,” according to Finger.
“Some of the reasons why North continues to improve is the supportive community, the passionate staff, hard working students and a vision for educating twenty-first century students,” she said.
