Goodbye, GNHS Class of 2015!

For most seniors, the school year coming to a close only means three things: Prom, graduation and college. It is also a time of reflection; especially now, many seniors look back upon their high school career.                .

“I have very mixed feelings about next year. While excited to start the next chapter in my life and to move on from high school, I’m also nervous about having to start over and leave the comfort of Grayslake. I’ll miss my friends that I have made these past four years. I’ll also miss having such a set schedule that I have right now. Next year I’ll have a lot of free time. I may not know what to do with myself,” said senior Bailey Bowers.

Some students are going to college close to home, while other students are going to college far out on the east and west coasts.

“I am attending San Francisco State University, and I am super excited. I have been wanting to leave the Midwest for years now, so moving to the west coast is so new and refreshing. Culture is going to change. People are going to change. I won’t see a single familiar face, which is terrifying, yet enthralling at the same time,” said senior Angela Zmuda.

The typical number of school days is about 180 days. There are four years in high school which means there are about 720 school days. A lot of things can happen in 720 days. People can change, old relationships end and new relationships begin.

“My mom once told me be your own best friend. I saw this extremely beneficial especially as a student who can be easily influenced by outside sources and can be pressured into making decisions that wouldn’t have my best interest at heart. It’s important to know your own worth and be able to support yourself and not rely on others all of the time. Then, you lose your ability to deal with problems on your own,” said senior Sonya Balaji.

For the first time, many seniors will leave their hometowns to be on their own. Some will go off to pursue their goals, possibly to further their education or figure out what they want to do. Whatever they do, wish them luck. Good luck, Class of 2015!
