Reunions offer some a chance to reconnect
High school reunions seem to be a thing of the past now, but many feel the need to return to what is said to be the best years of your life.
Today when we have Facebook and other social networking sites, it is hard not to know about what’s happened to the people you went to high school with.
“I use Facebook, Twitter and email to keep in contact with people I didn’t know so well, but I have kept in contact with two of my best friends from high school through text,” said English teacher Julia Burkel.
Burkel does not attend her high school reunions.
“No, I don’t attend my high school reunions. I refuse,” Burkel said.
However, Spanish teacher, Martin Rocha believes high school reunions are great to attend and see the people he went to high school with.
“My ten year high school reunion was great because I hadn’t spoken or seen anyone since high school, and it was crazy to see what they looked like and how they turned out,” Rocha said.
Rocha says that Facebook has made it easier for high school reunions to be more fun and comfortable.
“For my twentieth high school reunion, most of us were friends on Facebook and had kept in contact for a year before the reunion. It took away the surprise, but everyone was more comfortable and had more fun,” Rocha said.
According to Martin Rocha, deciding to go to high school reunions depends on your experince in high school.
“It all depends on your personality and your overall experience in high school,”Rocha said.
