Green Room and Encore! join forces in Little Shop of Horrors

After a break from a well-known show last year, Green Room and Central’s Encore! collaborated once again for this year’s spring musical, Little Shop of Horrors. The task has been a large one, as the show is recognized and highly attributed.

“It’s been a really cool experience to have the opportunity to play such a well-known character and to make him my own and add my own little quirks to him,” said senior Matthew Silverberg, who played the protagonist, Seymour.

A large production means a large set, and technical director Teslen Sadowski took this seriously.

“A lot of the set was created by students from the Theatre Production & Design class. The set is huge, and it includes a revolve where one side is the shop and the other is the town, detailed brick painting, buildings with balconies where actors can actually dance and a large plant,” she said. “It’s been a really cool process, and I am excited to see how the audience reacts.”
In preparation for the show, the cast has been rehearsing every day after school, and on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the company joins together to build the set and work on other technical aspects.

“The cast has [prepared] together through vocals, dance and blocking rehearsals,” said assistant stage manager Emily Ehret. “They also [dedicated] much of their own time to learning their individual roles.”
Although the process has been challenging, it is worth it in the end.
“The show challenged me to reach to more students both North and Central and make strong connections,” Ehret said. “I’ve learned a lot abuot what it takes to coordinate an ambitious, show such as this one, with such a large company from both schools.”

After spring break, Green Room will be preparing for MUSE, a fine arts night on April 1, which is a part of Spark Week. The community is invited to see showcase art, participate in activities and support the fine arts.
