Seniors compete for Mr. GNHS
Mr. GNHS is a fundraiser put together by the National Honor Society. It is their biggest fundraiser of the year. The president along with NHS officers put together the event to help raise money to fund their organization.
The competition was held on Thursday, February 26. The contestants this year were Andrew Martineau, Chad Cappelli, Shane Boyd, Devin Lange, Raj Zaveri, and Sean Monaghan. The boys had to perform a group song and a group dance. They had put together videos relating to their everyday lives, a lip sync performance, a fish bowl question, a talents portion, and they raised money for a charity of their choice.
“We were really excited for the performance. There was a lot of hard work and preparation that went into making the show perfect,” Martineau said.
The contestants were required to pick a charity to fundraise for the week of the event. Martineau fundraised for the 12 Oaks Foundation. Cappelli fundraised for the American Brain Tumor Association. Boyd fundraised for the American Cancer Society. Lange fundraised for the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Monaghan fundraised for the Les Turner ALS foundation, and Zaveri fundraised for the National Stroke Association.
“It was nice to fundraise for whatever charity we wanted to,” Monaghan said. “Whenever the school fundraises, they always pick the charity, but this time it was meant to be something special to us”.
The judges for Mr. GNHS were English teachers Tom New and Keeley Thode, physics teacher Paul Holder, and athletic secretary Lori DeFiore. They did a great job at bringing the whole show together and giving some quick witted jokes throughout the show.
John McShane was the student who had helped put the entire show together. He had worked countless hours preparing and getting people to volunteer for jobs throughout the preparation. NHS sponsors Erin Wise and Brent Sadewater were the teachers who helped with preparations and made sure the show was appropriate for all viewers.
“The participants should be applauded for working so hard, creating positive energy throughout the night, and donating so much of their time for charity,” Wise said.
The winner of the competition was Raj Zaveri. He had stolen the show with his impressive lip sync and hilarious Louie Armstrong impersonation while singing “What a Wonderful World.” Zaveri will now receive two prom tickets as Mr. GNHS 2015.
