Fashion evolves throughout decades

Many would agree that fashion is an essential part of pop culture with it’s evolution of fabrics and patterns. Fashion continues to appear as a popular subject among the internet and other sources of media, as it captures the hearts of many shoppers and adds to the extravagance of shopping malls and department stores.

However, many young teenagers may fail to recognize the repetition of clothing styles, with some trends dating back to the 50s.

Fashion has become revealing since the 2000s. Many articles of clothing made in this decade are made of thin fabric such as lace and mesh.

“Fashion has become somewhat provocative and less classy,” said freshman Amiyah Pitts.

However, many styles of clothing appear more laid back and conservative. This helps create a more simple look, such as solid colored shirts and casual shoes.

“I think the most popular pieces of clothing are oversized sweaters and cardigans for girls, with skinny jeans, Jordans, and hoodies for boys,” said senior Jordan Kennedy.

Fashion also bounces back and forth through generations of styles.

“Fashion has transpired by taking old styles such as the late 90s and renewing them to make those styles popular again,” said English teacher Jamie Lux.

What is considered vogue may become subjective, as many people have distinct opinions of clothing that is appealing versus what is considered dated. Brands are evolving as the generation grows, morphing to society’s tastes and tendencies.

“Popular brands are Jordan, Diamond Supply, and Nike,” Kennedy said.

Since fashion is a never ending change, some may have already predicted upcoming styles and fads.
“The future of fashion is probably going to be something huge and something extremely fun, because fashion is never boring,” Lux said.
