The varsity wrestling team is preparing vigorously for their upcoming competitions.
The Regional tournament was held on Feb. 7 in Vernon Hills.
Wrestlers Joe Arroyo, Mitchell Klein, Jake Wright, Cody Sawyer and Austin Cloe qualified for Sectionals. The team as a whole took 4th place with 129 points.
“We have been wrestling, lifting and conditioning every day at practice to ensure we are in top form for the upcoming weeks,” said varsity wrestling coach Collin McKillip.
The FVC Conference Meet was January 30 and 31 at McHenry West High School. At Conference, Jake Wright and Joe Arroyo came in third place. Alex Moran came in fourth, and Austin Cloe came in sixth,
Currently, the team is prepping for Sectionals and State coming up in a few weeks.
“All of our boys are hoping to be the first Grayslake North wrestler to bring home a State medal,” McKillip said.
At the end of the day, a wrestler’s biggest competition is themselves and how determinded they are to bring home a win.
“My biggest competition is myself because I know how good I am, but it’s up to me to push harder and strive for greatness,” said senior Manny Cabrera.
