Boys basketball fights to win Conference

The boys basketball team is performing well and looking to improve their conference record midway through their season. Their conference record is 6-3.
The team recently travelled to Washington, Illinois, to compete in the Martin Luther King Jr. Tournament. Their tournament record was 2-2.
“It was a great experience. We learned a lot and played some really good teams,” said senior Lee Bowen.
In Washington, the team played the ninth ranked team in the state, Alton. Other teams included East Peoria, Washington and Mahomet. There was strong competition, which led to intense games.
“We battled hard throughout those games and gave it all we had,” said senior Eli Atwater.
The team is looking to extend that powerful play into the regular season. Despite the loss against crosstown rival Grayslake Central in late January, the boys are looking to get back in the win column.
“Central was a tough loss, but we know we will be able to bounce back and beat them the next time we play,” said varsity point guard Bobby Krebs.
The Central game was close, and the team lost by just four points. They battled back the next week and beat Hampshire 70-57 in their highest scoring game of the year.
Before the upcoming playoffs, the team is working hard to stay motivated and focused.
“I think we are motivated by knowing that we could win Conference this season, but we are also aware that the conference is incredibly balanced. For that reason we have to stay motivated and play to our full potential on a nightly basis,” said head coach Todd Grunloh.
The team is looking to win the Conference Championship and make a run late into the Illinois State Playoffs.
