Anime Cosplay Party

Anime club held a cosplay party where they dressed up as their favorite Japanese cartoon characters to compete, connect, and show their love for the Japanese culture.

The idea of having a party was brought up by the club’s president, Alana Dalton, and, along with help from the rest of the group members, they planned it.

On October 28, Anime Club held a party in the library, and there were events like the Anime Olympics. For the Anime Olympics, the club split into four houses: the horror house, drama house, action/adventure house, and romantic comedy house.

“The Anime Olympics were intense.  It became very competitive very quickly, and in the end, we almost tied,” said junior Adrian Covarrubias.

The way the Anime Olympics worked, is the four houses went head to head in a series of challenges such as eating spicy Ramen noodles, creating the best symbol for the given house, and many other events.

This party was attended by people who watch the cartoons, or by people who just like the Japanese culture.

“It was a great party to connect with people and compete to see who knows their anime,” said junior Maddi Desens.

“[The officers] set up a PowerPoint for us to get quizzed on our favorite anime shows,” said junior Joey Rodriguez

At the end of the Anime Olympics, the house with the most points was the horror house, which was a close tie with action/adventure.  Rodriguez was a member of the horror house.

“We only beat them by one point.  It came close, and we almost lost,” Rodriguez said.

However, once the Olympics were over, the club strengthened due to the common interest in Japanese shows.

“I feel like we have managed to create a group of people who didn’t have similar interests in middle school, so just holding that party showed the connection in our club,” Desens said.

This party brought people together with common interests, gave them a chance to participate in friendly competition, and just gave the people in the club the chance to appreciate their favorite Japanese shows.
