Girls basketball begins with new coach, high hopes
As the winter season draws near, the girls basketball team is rigorously preparing for their upcoming season through practices and tournaments.
“Our first game was November 17 against Grant. It is part of the Mundelein Thanksgiving Tournament,” said varsity coach Rob Nicoletti.
The girls basketball team has a new coach this year, who previously coached the sophomore boys basketball.
“Coach Nicoletti! He is a new and great addition to the girls basketball program,” said senior Ella Swanson.
They have had several practices leading up to the first game to insure they are prepared and follow a team motto through each one.
“Our team motto is #WinAsOne,” said junior Marissa Krebs.
A total of thirteen girls made varsity: two freshmen, one sophomore, five juniors, and five seniors.
“We have 13 people on the varsity team this year,” said junior Alyssa Gunn.
The team has many goals they are striving to reach throughout this upcoming basketball season.
“Our unified goal as a team is to seize every opportunity, every day, to get better,” Swanson said.
The girls basketball team is trying to improve every day through practices and games.
“We are trying to compete and improve every single day,” Nicoletti said.
The girls basketball team is looking forward to making exciting memories this coming season.
“I’m looking forward to this season because our team as a whole are all friends, so it will be a fun season,” Gunn said.
This year, the girls basketball team will be giving back to the community by supporting The Salvation Army.
“We do a fundraiser for Salvation Army around Christmastime to help provide gifts for families that can’t, ” Krebs said.
