SOS organizes annual stockings project
Service Over Self (SOS) club is gearing up for Stockings for Soldiers, their annual first semester project, to help soldiers who are serving the country.
“Stockings for Soldiers is an event where we grab toiletries and small snack type items, put them in felt Christmas stockings, bag them up, and send them overseas to soldiers,” said sponsor Steve Colletti.
The project has been around for several years now.
“I have participated in Stockings for Soldiers for all four years of my high school career. Key Club used to do it for several years, and then SOS took over. Ever since then, it’s been a yearly event,” said president Becca Watters
The goal of the project is to remind soldiers that citizens back home are thinking of them.
“We really want to let the troops know how much they mean to us during this holiday season,” Watters said.
There are several things students can do to help SOS.
“We will be raising money in the cafeteria to pay to ship the stockings overseas because it can get quite expensive. You can also donate toiletries in our donation box located by the front entrance,” Colletti said.
Students can take a lot away from donating to Stockings for Soldiers.
“It reminds students that even though we are all warm in our homes, the soldiers are out fighting for our country. It’s the season of giving, and it’s always nice to give back,” Watters said.
