Homecoming Week brings many events, excitement
Even with Homecoming a few weeks ago, many students and faculty are still buzzing about the exciting night.
Robert Nicoletti, a faculty member in charge of Homecoming, was excited to talk about how he helped prepare for the dance.
“We plan a year in advance,” he said “We met with BOOM Entertainment B96 to discuss new ideas, advertising and the budget.”
Many new things were added this year to the Homecoming dance and pep rally, including souvenirs the DJ propelled into the crowd. For the first time ever, BOOM B96 brought light panels, and everyone seemed to love the new ideas.
“I loved the show! It was so cool that they had the panel lights this year,” said sophomore Jacque Garza, who was one of the announcers at the pep assembly.
As a freshman, Hillary Lewandowski was excited, as freshmen typically cannot attend Homecoming until they enter high school. Many freshmen were impressed with the dance’s atmosphere.
“It totally lived up to its reputation!” she said.
This year was senior Morgan Gates‘s last Homecoming, and she loved it.
“It didn’t even feel like a Homecoming; it felt more like a party,” she said.
Going with a date doesn’t have to be a priority.
“I’ve gone with a date the past two years, but at the same time, I didn’t spend the whole time with him. Going with friends is just as fun!” Garza said.
Homecoming week was comprised of various dress up days that students enjoyed, such as Actor Day, Catching Fire, Beach Day and Class Pride. The powder puff players wore their jerseys to school that Wednesday, the same night as the powder puff game.
Activity Knight was held on Tuesday, October 7, on the football field.
“There were s’mores, a campfire, even music,” Garza said. “Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun.”
Between the shooting sounds of the laser tag arena and the laughter at the obstacle course, Lewandowski couldn’t decide where to go first.
“We went back and forth between the obstacle course and laser tag. I turned every corner, and there was fun everywhere,” Lewandowski said.
The Homecoming game Friday night was against Woodstock. The varsity team crushed the opponent with a whopping score of 42-0.
The freshman, sophomore and junior class councils all helped plan powder puff. All the proceeds went to help fund next year’s Homecoming.
The sophomore class beat the freshman class 33-0 on Wednesday at the powder puff game.
“The powder puff game was so fun, even though the sophomores [won],” Lewandowski said. “But, next year I know that we’ll do just fine.”
The juniors were also quite disappointed with a score of 44-0 in their powder puff game against the seniors.
“It [was not fun] watching the juniors lose by so much, but it was a fun game in itself,” Lewandowski said.
There were 30 Student Council members who were involved in helping advertise Homecoming week and selling tickets. Furthermore, they also helped organize Activity Night.
