Insidious: Chapter 2 Review
The movie begins with a flashback focused on Josh, the father of the Lambert family, as a child who is undergoing a process to reveal any paranormal activity. This process is led by a woman named Elise, who finds that Josh is being haunted. Fast forward to present day and Josh is having problems again. He is being taken over by the same demon trying to possess him 25 years ago. The rest of the movie is filled with interweaving stories with the first Insidious and the flash-back at the beginning of the story as they search for the evil demon that has possessed Josh. They finally destroy the demon and the Lambert family returns to normal. The end.
This movie’s scare tactics were mainly suspenseful silences and pop outs. I personally like these types of horror movies, which allow me to get scared without grotesque gore. Considering that this movie was rated PG-13, it’s one of the scariest movies of the year, but not exactly the best horror movie of the year. Its downfall is its confusing plot. Although I understood it to some extent, it took several explanations before my friends could wrap their heads around the plot. There should’ve been more time explaining the story and less time in suspenseful silence. All in all: a solid horror movie with a wide ranged audience and good scares, but a plot that will give you headaches thinking about.
