With the Big Game rapidly approaching, the Special Olympic athletes are eager for a week of excitement leading up to their special day. The excitement builds with school activities, including Spirit Week and the highly anticipated Polar Plunge, that will pump up students, staff, and athletes with anticipation and preparation for the year’s event.
The week starts with Spirit Days, where students and staff are happy to get in the spirit of things by dressing up and marking the day for fun. The week starts with Pajama Day, when everyone can put on their comfiest lounging clothes and transition into the week. Tuesday spoils us with Throwback Day, where students and teachers get to dress their best in whichever decade they want—’80s, ’90s, or that decade that speaks to them. Wednesday gives us Class Color Day, where each grade’s students get to flaunt their pride by dressing in a specific color: Freshmen will be pink, Sophomores will wear purple, Juniors will be green, and Seniors will be blue. Staff members are not left out, either, as they also get to have their fun with Tie-Dye Day. Thursday is Knights Day, when everyone is encouraged to wear black and gold, proudly expressing their school pride a. Finally, Friday wraps up the week with Neon Day, encouraging everyone, including all the staff, and students, to wear their brightest neon or even their Big Game shirts, as they get ready for the last event of the week.
After all the hype in the days preceding the Big Game, the excitement will reach its peak in the Polar Plunge at Grayslake North High School. Several students and faculty members have volunteered to take the plunge, which will add new energy and enthusiasm to the already vibrant week. The Polar Plunge is a cold way of building school spirit, which makes it a fitting finale before the Big Game.
Our athletes are in for a week of activities before the Big Game, and they‘re especially anticipating the Polar Plunge and all the fun that comes with,” said staff member Jennifer Sparks. “It’s a chance for all of us to get together and make memories that will last forever.”
With all this school spirit and involvement, the week leading up to the Big Game is going to be one to remember, with school spirit, activities, and naturally, the support and enthusiasm of the players. Everyone is getting ready for an experience to remember the much-awaited Big Game itself.
