After two big wins over conference rivals, Grayslake North is on a roll winning seven out of their last ten games since Christmas. There is a lot to be optimistic about this year. Especially being 9-21 at this point of the season last year, the Knights have turned heads and are sitting at 16-12 to start this season (8-4) in conference play.
On January 15th, Star point guard, Jayden Hunt led the way in scoring with 23 points, with Junior forward Uros Mitrovic chipping in for 10 points, in a huge 53-42 win over conference rival Antioch. In Friday’s win over Grant, Hunt and Mitrovic combined for 44 points in the knight’s big 61-47 win over the Bulldogs. The Knights have held 15/22 or 68% of their opponents to 50 points or less this year. Senior Guard Jayden Hunt has been a big reason for that, he’s been dominant all season long averaging 16 points per game while also leading in assists per game and steals per game.
“Even when we’ve lost this year, we always seem to be more competitive, Assistant Coach Scott Ewen said. During five of our losses, we’ve been winning at halftime and just couldn’t hold on. With nine games left, we’d love to add as many wins as possible heading into the playoffs.”
As the Knights prepare for the playoffs tallying up as many wins as possible will help their seeding as they get ready to host the regional this year.
Senior Tyler Morgan who is in his third year on varsity has already experienced the ups and downs.
“What’s been different for us is everyone has grown on the team from last year skillswise and we have more experience, which has helped towards our early success. Said Morgan, “I think what has created a big leap among veteran players isn’t just improvement in skill, but the want to win a regional and striving for that goal. This has caused everyone to work harder and is a big part of our success.”
The knights continue this prominent season, everyone is keeping heads high as they make a final push for a conference title.
