Every year seniors in Green Room get to create their own plays. The students are able to be creative and hone their skills in writing and directing.
They have poured their hearts and minds into every aspect of the production process. The students participating have been excited to make their own plays since when they first joined Green Room.
“I am so excited to be directing this year! Directing is seen as kind of a ‘right of passage’ as seniors leave the Green Room. I have been a part of Green Room since my freshman year, so it feels like a full-circle moment,” said senior Sean McNicholas.
It’s a long process to get everything organized. From having rehearsals every week to getting the show ready, the seniors have been hard at work with their plays.
“We have rehearsals a few times a week to prepare for the show, and we work on movement, lines, tone, emotion, and everything that comes with a dramatic monologue,” said senior Rory Dwyer.
While working on the one act plays, the students faced a challenge when the tech director Kaitlyn Krastev passed away. Some of the students had a close relationship with her, and it impacted them a great deal. That meant that if the show was going to still happen, other people would have to step up and step in.
“I’ve been trying to help out with tech as much as I can. And Mr. Evans, the theater manager at Central, has also come in and helped out,” said sponsor Patrick Green.
Each play has a different genre ranging from comedy to drama. Drawing inspiration from their own lives and from the world around them, they are able to craft stories. With each production, they are able to showcase their talents and creativity.
“I was definitely inspired by Mrs. McConville and the way that she directs. I have found that I am using a lot of the same techniques as her when I direct, and she has definitely been an inspiration in my acting, and now my directing,” Dwyer said.
