As a person wakes up and is getting ready for the day, a question pops into one’s head: What do I wear?
When it comes to clothes, the world of fashion is one’s oyster. There are so many different styles out there that can correlate with anyone’s personality. Most people find styles or aesthetics they like and want to follow from social media apps like Pinterest, Instagram, or TikTok. There they can figure out what stores to buy from and how to style their clothes based on their desired look.
“I get my outfit inspiration from Pinterest, and I follow certain fashion trends like the Y2K or Coquette looks,” said junior Maddy Porter.
As a young person, people are still finding themselves and what they enjoy. Fashion is a great way for people to understand a person. It shows a sense of identity just by seeing the types of colors a person wears and how they style items of clothing.
“I think clothes give people a perfect way to express themselves in a way to really be themselves so that could maybe mean they dress crazy and fun because that’s how they express themselves,” said senior Kirston Swanson. “I know for me I used to have a lot of insecurities, and finding clothes that fit my personality well made me feel good and made me start to love myself.”
Though there are always new looks coming out, some trends from previous years can recycle, but with a more modern spin. Some fashion designers have said that they get their inspiration from what their parents wore when they were younger. For example, old styles from the 80s and 90s can pop back up in the 21st Century like flared or low-rise pants. Then people can style it in a way that suits them to make something completely new within the fashion community.
“I feel like clothing trends always cycle. You know how 80s clothing is kind of coming back as well as early 2000s?” said senior Marlee Jaramillio. “I feel like style has always come back while it also improves at the same time.”
All clothing brands have a certain factor about them that separates them from other brands, but are they worth the money? Since there are so many different styles of fashion, people who are looking for a specific style can lean toward a brand that appeals to their clothing style even if the brand is more on the expensive side; however, second-hand/cheaper brands of clothes can give the same factor to someone trying to achieve a certain style.
“It’s nice to spend some money on pricier clothes from time to time, but I also thrift, which saves me money, so I think that people don’t necessarily need to spend a ton of money on clothes,” Porter said.
