The girls bowling season is just now getting started with a strong record. The girls variety team is built up of 20 players who have a drive and determination to go out and always play their best.
This year the varsity was able to get a new coach. This year the varsity team has a new coach from UW-Whitewater.
Having a coach with a great background in the sport one is doing is helpful in many ways. It can teach people new ways of doing things and many new skills.
“I played for Antioch. I was on varsity all four years. I also played at UW-Whitewater where I was also on varsity for four years,’’ said varsity coach Samantha Knab.
Getting the opportunity to have a coach who shares the same love for the sport that one is doing can bring the player and the coach together and enable them to build a better team.
“ I love high school bowling. I am a teacher, so I love helping others, and this is a way I can give back to a sport that I love,” Knab said.
Lots of bowlers have gone a long way. Some are even playing after graduation.
“I have committed at Carroll University for bowling,” said senior Brooke Ellingsen.
While still going to school to achieve great milestones playing a sport alone with that will always help an individual.
‘’I am going to Carroll University where I will be majoring in Occupational Therapy and plan on bowling while in school then moving on to bowling leagues if I have free time after college,” Ellingsen said.
Many of the team’s players are new to the team and or new to the sport. But like junior Maddie Ley, having someone who inspired her to play the sport, she knows that the person already plays a big role in her life.
‘’I have an older sister. She joined her freshman year, so before I was in high school, I just kind of liked watching it and decided to try it out,” Ley said.
