The girls cross country team has had a pretty successful season so far, and it’s mostly doing well because of the underclassmen.
The team consists of five sophomores, two juniors, and only one senior.
“Our team took third place in the frosh/soph division of the James Taylor Invitational on September 23,” Spangler said.
The sophomores on the team, according to both the coaches and their fellow teammates, have carried their team throughout this season.
“I was a little nervous at the beginning of the season, with there only being a few upperclassmen on the team, but we’ve been doing pretty well. For me, cross country is really just about staying in shape for track season, but it’s also about being on a team and I’m really proud of our team this year,” said junior Sydney Wilson.
Cross country is an individual sport, but the team is good at supporting one another throughout the season, and even after. Even with the age differences, the team has formed a close bond. Like most sports, it’s really important to set goals so that as a team, they can work together to accomplish that goal.
“Our goal is to finish in the top half at the NLCC Conference Championships and have a strong showing at Regionals,” Spangler said.
The team is pretty confident that they can achieve this goal, since they are all determined and they have been practicing and showing up all season.
