Girls tennis has had a successful season. With their ups and downs, they ended the season with a well-rounded record.
The girls varsity tennis team has beat every team in their conference except for Grant. The varsity record is 9-5, and both the JV and varsity levels beat Central. They have played really well this year and have been playing as a unified team. Overall, the tennis team has 11 varsity players and 19 JV players.
“I think we’re killing it,” said varsity player Maddie Porter. “Yeah, we’re tied for conference, Conference Champions with Central. “
Elyse Gawrecki is playing in her last season this year at Grayslake North. She is currently a senior and has been playing since the beginning of her freshman year. She is the number one singles tennis player and will be competing in Conference on Friday, October 6.
“Elyse and Jayashri are the players that always give effort and bring leadership to the team, and since they are seniors, they want to leave the year with a good reputation and give it their all,” said varsity coach Allison Szramek.
Over the summer, girls tennis has a week-long camp that the girls are able to participate and play in. This camp helps them work on running, serves, and all of the tennis functions needed to succeed for the upcoming season.
“Summer camp was really fun to the players because they got to play games doing tennis and teaching them the basics or skills to become a better player or have fun,” said JV coach John Selvey.
As the girls tennis season comes to an end, they will compete in the conference tournament with hopes to advance through Regionals onto Sectionals.
