Students and staff on Student Council, as well as friends, worked together to decorate the hallways for the upcoming Homecoming festivities.
On the morning of September 24, students were split by grade to decorate a hallway that was assigned to them with a certain color scheme: freshmen being red, sophomores green, juniors blue, and seniors purple. The students of Student Council took a different approach this year to how themes of hallways were planned out to give a more representative look.
“We wanted each class to be represented in the school,” said head sponsor of Student Council Megan Crowley. “We decided that colors would be easier, more approachable, and fun to decorate with.”
Along with planning themes, getting hallway decorations is also a huge implement. When buying the decorations, Student Council members must discuss budgeting and compromise on how certain decorations would be used. Yet, budgeting this year was not much of a hassle for Student Council because of the funds they had raised from school festivities.
“Budget planning is kind of based on event sales before Homecoming,” said senior Hannah Matulonis, a member of Student Council. “We get money from the powderpuff game for example.”
The students of Student Council are in charge of many different tasks to take on with upcoming events. For hallway decorating, Student Council members chose the themes among themselves, organizing budgets, and what hallways are chosen to decorate. A popular choice for decoration buying was off Amazon due to it being a fast, highly reliable delivery service with plenty of options. Students were able to express their class based on the decorations they compromised getting and planned out.
“Each class and hallway decorating committee picked which hallway they wanted to do and what they were ordering. They were stuck to a budget and they could buy whatever they wanted in that class color,” Crowley said. “They did a good job and made good choices.”
After hours of hard work from students and staff, students get to see the finished product of color-filled hallways the following school day. Many students enjoyed the hallways and had their own opinions on which they thought was best decorated.
“I would say that the senior hallway turned out the best because seniors did a good job with matching the color purple and the disco theme,” said junior Maddy Porter.
With festivities happening throughout the week of Homecoming, hallway decorating is a big part of the upcoming week.
“Hallway decorating is a big part of Homecoming because it makes everyone excited and hyped up for homecoming,” Porter said.
