On Tuesday, August 22nd, The NLCC Leadership Conference took place at the Round Lake Civic Center. In the conference, up to 30 students from North attended talking about the new “Stand Up” motto that was introduced this school year.
The motto was created by a large group of staff members and students who wanted to find what a North Knight truly means. Athletic director Tina Woolard and activities director Keeley Naughton nominated 30 students to help brainstorm ideas about the motto.
“’Stand Up’ means doing what’s right, standing up for yourself, standing up for others, standing up after you have failed, and being one united group,” Naughton said.
Every year, the NLCC Leadership Conference splits up the students into groups with other schools in the conference to discuss leadership.
“We discussed the different forms of leadership and how we personally embody them,” said senior Brooke Ellingsen. “We do team building activities to take back to our clubs or sports and share different things our school does to make others feel special.”
At the conference, the students also discussed how it is important for everyone to be a part of the school spirit.
“We discussed at the conference that it is most important that we include everyone to be a part of the school spirit and to never give up even if things get hard,” said senior Jacqui Cordova.
Throughout this school year and continuing into the next, staff and students hope that North begins to use the motto to help make the school environment a better place.
“The true meaning is to stand up for others and to help everyone so they don’t feel like they are by themselves when they’re struggling,” Cordova said.
