Grayslake North tennis team strives to finish season strong
The Grayslake North Tennis team is looking to bring home a conference title when they head to the conference tennis tournament in mid-May.
Currently, the Grayslake North boys tennis team is sitting at a 7 – 4 overall and they have a 5 – 1 conference record. Coaches Katherine Cole and Denzel Mitchem seem to have made their rookie season a success with that final record in the books.
“Coach Cole and I are trying to start a fresh season here, so there have been a lot of roster moves,” said Coach Mitchem. “Despite this, the boys have been working hard and won some pretty close series.”
He also said the weather has been rough on the team, but the boys have persevered.
“We have had a rough season because of the weather, but the boys kept in good spirits,” Coach Mitchem said.
Seniors Dylan Clausen and Christian Abban are undefeated in singles competition in conference play, said Coach Cole. Big things are expected of them when they play the conference tournament.
“We play Round Lake High School Monday, and we are a week away from the conference tournament,” said Coach Cole.
Most players said their favorite memory from earlier this year was defeating rival Grayslake Central.
“My favorite memory of the season was beating Grayslake Central in a close series,” said junior Varun Gullapalli.
