Juniors take Illinois State Science Test
All juniors at GNHS have to take the state science test. They took this test last Thursday, and there are mixed reviews on it.
The testing is still relatively new here in Illinois, and the testing is a federally administered online test based on the Illinois Learning Standards for Science.
“From my understanding of it, the test is used to rate the school and the school’s science teachers,” science teacher Joseph Rogalski said
Junior Christian Coronado took the test, and he thinks that people shouldn’t stress out about it because it doesn’t affect their grades.
“Don’t stress about it this test. It doesn’t define who you are, but also it isn’t as important as the SAT and many of the answers are things that we’ve already learned in our science classes, so it’s more of a test of your knowledge I feel like,” Coronado said.
“It was the same start time as a normal school, but students were released early. It was pretty boring, and we got out early. I had to be at school at 8:15, and I showed up in the same room where I took the SAT,” Coronado said.
Junior Parth Kumar thought the testing went well. He liked the way that the day was set up, and he felt it ran smoother than the SAT.
“The day was set up great. Everything was organized unlike the SAT. The experience was good, and it was a quick test,” Kumar said.
