Dangerous trend becomes popular on social media
Splat guns are a new trend on Tik Tok and are becoming popular among high school students around the country.
Teens use splat guns to play a game. It involves a group of friends going into Life 360 or some other app to track their current location. People make teams and attack or jump other people in the game with the splat guns. There are relatively no rules. People in the game can kidnap other people involved and attack them anywhere at any location, even work. A student that was previously involved with this game said what the rules were.
“No rules. You can pull up on anyone anywhere,” said senior Logan Perry.
Although these splat guns just seem like they are all fun and games, they can be very dangerous. Splat guns are shaped like real guns, but from up close, they clearly have no resemblance to an actual gun. But from afar these can give the impression that someone is holding a real gun. Kids are also painting their guns different colors and modding them out to give them an even greater resemblance to an actual gun.
“The unfortunate reality is as fake as they can appear from a distance and in a quick twitch moment it is difficult to understand what a real gun is and what a fake gun is,’” said dean Kevin Doyle.
These splat guns hurt a little bit. They do leave redness on the skin and can even leave welts. If these guns are found on school property, the deans can confiscate them. Students can also get in serious trouble even from the police.
“If you are caught with a splat gun on school property, it all depends on the circumstance on how it was used, but we would talk to our administration or our school officer,” Doyle said.
If a students were to be found in possession of these at school, there would be consequences.
“I am sure from the school aspect they would be taken away and parents called,” Officer Mario Balarin said.
Unfortunately, these splat guns can appear real. This is the reason that they are not allowed on school property and can be seen as dangerous.
