Winter sports recap: Girls Basketball

The girls basketball season has been nothing short of interesting with a conference record of 6-8 and a total record of 12-18

After a long hard-fought season, the girls talked about their experiences this year and how they’ve changed as a team.

“I think we grew as a team and formed bonds with people I would’ve never met without joining,” said sophomore Jeana Roscoe.

This was a record-breaking season for junior Peyton Gerdes. She broke eight school records. On top of that she also had 1,000 points.

“For me, the memorable things that happened this season were the eight school records I broke. I have broken the career and season rebounds, career and season blocks, career and season double-doubles, triple-doubles, and season scoring records. My favorite game was when I hit 1000 points because the whole team came together to celebrate it, and that was the game I recorded the first triple-double for girls basketball,“ said center Peyton Gerdes.

The team as a whole had a very exciting matchup against Lakes who originally lost a tight game 47-45 and faced them again in January with a score of 47-31. This proved their growth as a team.

“We always worked hard. We had some low points during the season, but instead of staying in a slump, we worked harder in practice to get out of it,“ Gerdes said.

These girls were proof that team chemistry is important. They showed their friendship on and off the court.
“The funniest teammate in my opinion is Morgan Flynn. Abbie Kukis is definitely the most caring,“ Roscoe said.

Overall, the girls season was amazing and fun to watch them battle on the court and putting in hard work during practice to get where they are today.

“One thing we hope to improve is to be able to finish games and go out with more wins,” Roscoe said.

As the girls look to next season, they will be hoping to finish their season on a better note and to make the playoffs next year.
