Winter sports recap: Dance

With the dance team’s season coming to an end, they had major achievements, including placing at Conference along with having a score increase that is rarely seen in the dance world.

The dance team worked hard all winter to accomplish goals they set for themselves along with the hopes of improving themselves and the team overall.

“I feel like the dancers worked incredibly hard, and they made so much progress, improved. They have a great foundation to continue being a hip-hop and stronger dance team,” said coach Kimberly Vojack.

At Conference, the team had their prior score increase by ten points. An increase that high is rare within the dance world. They were not only able to reach such a shocking milestone, but they were able to continue that score in their competitions following.

“At Conference, our goal was to get third. We practiced a lot and made changes. Even that day, we made changes because we lost a teammate due to COVID. But it was important to us because we achieved that goal despite all the things that were thrown at us,” said senior Itzel Gonzalez.

The team was able to attend Sectionals on January 22, 2022. Unfortunately they were unable to continue to State.

Since switching their dance style to hip-hop this season, the dance team now has a better plan and view on their coming seasons.

“I think we still have a lot to learn, and I think there’s still a lot to explore in that hip hop world. But I’m excited now that we have that foundation that we can continue to build off of that,” Vojack said.
