The Jazz Band performed their pieces that they have been rehearsing since September at Grayslake North’s Jazz Nite.

Jazz Night occurred on November 18, 2021, and was an evening for Grayslake North student jazz musicians to showcase their talents.

“I thought it was successful because we were able to put out three presentable songs after a year and a half of missing the band due to COVID-19,” said junior alto saxophone player Ailani Pedroza.

The groups that were involved were the Jazz Band and Jazz Choir. They had been preparing their pieces since the beginning of the year, and they rehearsed weekly.

“I did enjoy it. It was a lot of fun playing music and sharing it with everybody,” said senior tenor saxophone player Jack Dirig. Jazz Band meets twice a week and has been perfecting their music since September.

“It is a really awesome experience, and it feels great to showcase different styles of music than people are mainly used to,” Pedroza said.

There will be another opportunity to experience Jazz Nite in the Spring, as there are two jazz concerts per year.

“People should join the Jazz Band and Jazz Choir because they are running low on people,” Dirig said. If an individual is interested in getting involved with the two groups, contact the jazz director, Dr. Paul Nielsen, or the band director, Dr. Candace Edstrand.
