Environmental Club works to help school

The school’s Environmental Club has been working hard all year keeping the school clean. With their sponsor Christine Applehans, the club meets up every week to recycle things around the school.

In addition to recycling every Tuesday, the club holds fundraisers often to expand on helping the school’s environment. This includes their hanging basket sale and mum sale with the help of bathroom bulletins.

“One of our accomplishments this year was being able to purchase awesome benches for the courtyard, bird feeders and bird seed. That was made possible by the people that supported our fundraisers,” said Christine Applehans, sponsor of the club.

The club meets up every Tuesday to recycle around the school, but especially during Homecoming week. The club went all around the school and picked up trash from spirit week, the dance, and the games.

“The most interesting thing we have come across this year would be the things we find on the school’s campus. Groups went around the school grounds and picked up trash/litter after Homecoming week,” said Aarya Balaji, third president of the Environmental Club.

The club is willing to take in new members anytime. They run all year long and are happy to have new members. It doesn’t take anything to get in the club, just a word with a sponsor.
“Students are always welcome to join us. They can email me or Ms. Stenberg or just show up. We meet in room A111 every Tuesday,” Applehans said.

“We are a very open club. No one is required to stay in the club, and we work around people’s schedules. Every Tuesday we collect the school’s recycling, and we invite anyone who wants to help us,” Balaji said.

The members of this club are very passionate about taking care of the environment for the school as well as educating people. They work hard and love what they do.

“I always enjoy recycling with my friends every Tuesday; I think it’s such a great time to bond with new people and explore the school for someone who hasn’t been in all the offices,” Balaji said.
