Academic Teams begins competition season
The Academic Team had a competition last week performing well for one of the first competitions this year, facing off against 3 teams.
The Academic Team had a competition last week where they faced off against Grant, Grayslake Central, and Antioch, winning their “match” against Grant, having newer members starting to compete this season.
“I think we did great. We have a good chunk of new team members who have never competed in these competitions, so this competition came with a learning curve. We can try and replicate it as much as we can in practice, but there is something different about the true competition environment,” said head coach Noah Scibbe.
The team was getting together weekly to play practice matches, and only recently started their competitive season this year, after the last season was hindered due to COVID-19. They are starting strong and being able to play in person once again.
“The season has gone well so far. Before the competition season started, we met weekly to do some practice questions together and play practice matches, and the team seemed to enjoy that quite a bit. Now that competitions have started, it is a lot of fun to see other students and play in person once again,” Scibbe said.
Although just starting, the team is already improving and expect to see much growth and be a strong competitor in the upcoming competitions this season.
“I think we will have a very successful season. As time goes on, students learn more and the competitions become second nature to them. I am hoping we have a lot of more wins and a strong showing at the conference tournament in January,” Scibbe said.
