Campbell qualifies for State in golf
Varsity golfer Creighton Campbell qualified for State, making him the fourth Grayslake North golfer to ever do so. Campbell scored a 76 his first day of State then scored an 82 his second day.
“I felt good. I mean I played okay to get into there. I was happy that it wasn’t just a lucky fluke, but I wasn’t totally thrilled or anything. I was satisfied, I would say,” Campbell said.
Although having great success this season, he did not reach his current skill overnight. It was through his dedication to the sport that he enhanced his skill, practicing every day for a couple of hours over the summer.
“His sophomore year was a bit of a struggle, but that was what was really fun to watch, as was his determination to really improve his game for this coming season and how hard he worked over the summer. That was all on him. He just really got focused on his golf game this past year and really made great strides,” varsity coach Tim Hough said.
Having finished his junior year season with his great achievements, Campbell does not see his passion for the game waning, as he was already looking to his senior season and the possibility of playing at the college level.
“I’d love to go to college for it. I don’t know what level that I could play at, but I just want to get as good as I can. Hopefully next year I’ll be able to go back [to State] and make a serious run to hopefully get a top 10 or top 5,” Campbell said.
With his next season being his last at North, Campbell has high aspirations for the season and has demonstrated the will to see it through and continue to put in hard work.
“So there’s obviously a little work ahead, and I think he can do that. I think he can go as far as he wants in the game of golf. I think he could absolutely play after high school, and he just has to put in the work,” Hough said.
